The new iPhone app, known as BreathalEyes, uses the iPhone camera to record and measure a persons Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN).
This HGN is the involuntary eye movement that can occur when a person is impaired by alcohol and is one of the many different field sobriety tests that are conducted by police officers.
By having a person look into the iPhone camera, the app is able to measure this movement in a 10 second test and then lets drivers know if they are under the influence.
While this app is legally marketed for entertainments purposes only, it has been tested alongside a standard breathalyzer.

A few new cards were announced at CES last week that sound pretty exciting. The new standard for wireless SD cards seems to have quite a bit of potential, and the XQD card from the CompactFlash Association has, on paper, some impressive specs.Despite the excitement, it seems that two of the biggest memory card companies around won’t be having any part of these new cards. Both still plan to support CompactFlash over XQD. After all, CF cards have a long history and are still very popular. To add to the decision, Lexar points out that their new 1000x CF card the company just announced is faster than the XQD cards that Sony is putting out.(via PhotographyBlog)
