European Union Draws Up New Plan for e-Waste Disposal

We love our shiny new tech toys, but how about the old ones? Electronic gadget disposal is fast becoming a big environmental issue and now European Union has decided to tame the beast. According to a new plan recently approved by European Union, electronics retailers are now under legal obligation to accept electronic waste for proper disposal. The retailers are not allowed to make any charges for providing this service. The new provision is only applicable to retailers with 400 square meters or larger space.

The new rule is meant to be implemented over the period of next seven years and hence you may not be able to use this facility anytime soon.

SanDisk and Lexar Say No to XQD and SD Wireless Cards

A few new cards were announced at CES last week that sound pretty exciting. The new standard for wireless SD cards seems to have quite a bit of potential, and the XQD card from the CompactFlash Association has, on paper, some impressive specs.Despite the excitement, it seems that two of the biggest memory card companies around won’t be having any part of these new cards. Both still plan to support CompactFlash over XQD. After all, CF cards have a long history and are still very popular.To add to the decision, Lexar points out that their new 1000x CF card the company just announced is faster than the XQD cards that Sony is putting out.(via PhotographyBlog)
